Pearl Abyss has finally given fans what they’ve waited years for: a confirmed release window for Crimson Desert, alongside an extended gameplay trailer that shows far more of the open world, the brutal melee combat, and a surprise co-op mode drawing instant Monster Hunter comparisons.

The trailer: what we saw

The new footage opens on the continent of Pywel, showing a dense open world with dynamic weather and day/night cycles. It’s immediately followed by a lengthy combat segment — and the combat is the star. Parries, dodge cancels, grapple pulls, and context-sensitive finishers are stitched together in a way that feels far more like a fighting game than a typical action RPG.

Pearl Abyss also confirmed the protagonist, Kliff, will have access to a suite of movement skills that let you traverse buildings, cliffs, and enemy camps quickly — something the studio says is central to both exploration and combat.

The co-op surprise

Possibly the biggest reveal was the “Adventure” mode: an instanced co-op multiplayer feature in which you and up to three players hunt large field bosses. Each unique boss has breakable parts, elemental weaknesses, and dedicated crafting drops, which is exactly why the community is drawing the Monster Hunter comparison.

💡 Pearl Abyss says Adventure mode is optional and fully separate from the single-player campaign. You can jump in and out freely, and progress rewards carry across your account.

Release window & platforms

Crimson Desert is targeting the first half of 2027, with a PC and console launch planned in the same window. A console beta — joining the previously reported PC playtest — is also expected ahead of launch.

What’s next

With a release window locked and an open beta playtest on the way, Pearl Abyss is clearly entering the final stretch. We’ll have full hands-on impressions as soon as we can get into the beta. In the meantime, find out how to join the Crimson Desert playtest, or head to our system check tool to see if your PC is ready.
